Every bear his cave, every writer…

One of the great pleasures of being a writer is having your own special writing “place.” An escape where the nerves are calmed and the magic happens (or, if not magic, at least illusion:-).

Here’s mine. I like to call it my “Manbrary” but out of consideration for my wife, I’ll settle for Library.

Priorities and wisdom

June 27, 2009 at 7:34 pm (Job search, our house, time)

The thing about being a writer who doesn’t actually get paid for writing (yet) is that writing well takes lots of time. It takes constant practice. And, surprising as it may be, life doesn’t put itself on hold to make room for my writing. It moves on, quickly, and finding a nice coffee-and-quiet-table-so-I-can-write time doesn’t alway fit well into the hustle and bustle of being a responsible adult.

Take right now, for example. I need to write. I also need to be looking for a real job, one that actually pays money so my wife and I can eat and she can stay home with the new baby next year. I also have a bathroom that’s halfway remodeled and multiple other house projects that need to be done sometime in the next decade (Kyna would probably prefer a much shorter timetable). I’ve done all of the above in the past week and I guess in the end its about priorities and wisdom.

Unfortunately, I have lots of priorities and not nearly enough wisdom.
